Some folks are born made to wave the flag. The Blackwood family has served the republic for generations, through its manifestations, its changes, its rising and falling. The old republic and the new. I live for the New United States of America, for security and stability.
My name is Kazian Blackwood. I was born in 2046, in New York City, the once-heart of America. When the Blackwoods came to America, 200 years ago, we were among the tired and huddled masses, yearning for safety and liberty. For generations we gave back to the nation that nurtured us, as soldiers. I had ancestors in the World Wars, a grandfather in Nicaragua, and it was no surprise to me that my education would lead me at a young age to a military scholarship at West Point. As an east-coast military brat I was destined to excel at a life paved for me. At 17 I entered the NUS military academy on a Militch scholarship, coming from the top of my class in secondary school in academics, athletics, and netrunning.
As a cadet, I was fond of history, knowing the workings of great battles, how they were won and lost, and by who. I wanted to be a great general, but the military saw in me something I hadn't yet realized as a youth. I suspect there were many reasons for it, looks, skills, belief in the republic as a whole. That was really when my service to the NUSA began. When I graduated at the top of my class, I was became an officer in a signal company, just two years before the Unification War...
When my war came, it was one long year of catastrophic destruction, like so many wars before it. But the Metal Wars, as they called it, were a war of the future, and for a soldier who knew how to operate alongside the net, I did well enough for myself in the fiery battlefields of the Mojave desert.
After the war ended, with the Japanese seizing Night City, the NUSA must have realized a need for a broadening of its intelligence service as they tapped me, aware of me since West Point or so they said. I was recruited into the Federal Intelligence Agency counter-insurgency division.
After intensive training, I began working in the field as part of the NUSA's push to return America to dominance in North America. Operations against Indigenous terrorists in the Alberta-Northwest oil fields in 2074, Buenos Ares and Panama in 2075, and of course the Mexican Cartel Wars beginning in 2077.
All of them whisked me around the world into danger and espionage, at the forefront of renewed American power around the globe. However, it was on American soil that my good luck ran out.
In the spring of 2080, I was sent to the free state of Texas, the last and greatest hold-out from a more perfect union, save for small stain known as Night City. It was a daring mission, one they thought I was ready for... one I thought I was ready for. My team and I carried classified datashards through Texas with the intent to deliver them to deeply-entrenched agents in Austin, information related to next-gen Militech developments, ones that could change the course of the future for America and regain the free states. But the Texans are a fierce people, deeply independent, once thought to have harbored the American spirit more than anyone. But the damned savages used nomads to hit us. We never learned how they blew our cover, but deep in the south of Texas my crew was massacred, and the information was compromised. I spent the better part of a week tied up in the nomad garage before FIA extraction agents rescued me, and with my colossal failure I assumed my short and bright tenure with the Agency was through. But my survival, and my track-record, spoke for me.
I was punished nevertheless, but with a caveat. Much of my top of the line cyberware was mandated to be removed, and I spent the next year in both rehabilitative care and re-training.
Now, in 2081, I've been given another chance, against all odds, transferred to one of the worst assignment in the NUSA: Night City. With Militech and NUSA operations ramping up in California, I've been assigned to a clandestine FIA operation to secure the city and counter both the gangs that run the street, and the sinister shadow of Arasaka looming over the city. Assigned to the Special Activities Center, our ops are black, embedding ourselves in Militech as they provide us with what we need to damage Arasaka...

-While expected to a be a ruthlessly cold and calculating operative to achieve American goals, Kazian knows there is a time and place for charisma and personality, effectively using it to his advantage when he needs, but rarely doing so without ulterior motive.
HUMANITY: 43
-A long time user of cyberware, Kazian is struggling with having much of his better implants removed or down-graded, even with the FIA's rehabilitative therapy. He makes frequent use of his emotion suppressor implants to maintain a level head, which often inadvertently keeps him numbed to the pain of past traumas he is unable to properly heal.
