Mission Briefing: Black Dog
The Sunset Motel
Badlands, NC
The Sunset Motel sat quiet beneath the neon glow of its flickering sign, a forgotten relic on the edge of Night City. The cracked asphalt of the parking lot still held the warmth of the day, but the desert winds had already begun their slow creep, carrying the distant scent of dust and gasoline. Beyond the motel's dim lights, the Badlands stretched out in all directions—miles of empty road, broken earth, and the kind of silence that only existed outside the city's chaos.
Ryan Graves and his crew had gathered here, the tension thick in the air. The gig had come from @Red Bulloch, a name with weight in the streets, and Red never brought a job unless it was solid. The target: a rogue Arasaka executive, defecting into Militech's arms. The kind of high-level defection that corpos hated because it meant secrets changing hands, a potential shift in the endless cold war between giants. Whoever had set this up had covered their tracks well. Red had received the details through disposable phones, dead-end encryption, and untraceable networks. The coordinates checked out. The intel held firm. This convoy was real, and it was moving through the Badlands under cover of darkness. Both the client and the exec fleeing Arasaka had covered their asses, nobody was the wiser.. except the crew gathered here. Ready for the gig to come.
Timing was everything. The exec's convoy, an armored transport and a two sedans full of hired goons, was expected to hit the stretch of road just past the motel within the next hour. No air support, no heavy reinforcements. A window of opportunity, if they played it right.
But nothing about a rogue corpo, Arasaka bodyguards, and a Militech rendezvous ever came easy.
The Sunset Motel served as the last point of preparation. Weapons were checked and rechecked, cyberware tuned, last-minute plans drawn in the dirt beside parked vehicles. A room was rented, a tub filled with ice and surrounded by hardware for a netrunner to jack in and run the net, if needed. Any others would have to help in person or from their own abodes if they could. The air buzzed with quiet conversation, but no one made small talk. This was the kind of job that could make a crew's rep or bury them in an unmarked grave out in the dust.
Outside, the highway stretched like a black ribbon beneath a sky with no stars. The world felt heavy with anticipation, the calm before the storm.
The convoy was coming.
Time to get to work.
