Guide to AI Replies & the NPC Storyteller
What Is the NPC Storyteller?
The NPC Storyteller is an entirely optional AI resource enabled to enhance storytelling and roleplay on Cyberpunk 2081 in Public Threads and Private Threads when desired. When enabled by the thread author, it provides dynamic responses, descriptions, and interactions to enrich the RP experience.
Where Can It Be Used?
- Public Threads: Open roleplay threads where anyone can participate. The autoresponder can add atmospheric details, introduce unexpected events, or control minor NPCs.
- Private Threads: Closed roleplay threads between selected players. The autoresponder can act as a neutral game master, shaping the story dynamically.
How to Enable It
1. Start a New Thread
- Navigate to either the Public Threads or Private Threads node.
- Click "Create Thread" and fill in the necessary details.
- Before posting, toggle the Enable AI Replies option.
- In your first post, describe the parameters for how the NPC Storyteller should behave (e.g., tone, level of involvement, NPC roles). Briefly describe the setting as you would and who it will play as.
- Ask it to write only as the intended NPC or NPCs, if you do not it will write as other player characters.
- Specify what kind of NPC narrator it should act as (e.g., a bartender feeding rumors, a street-level fixer, a security drone scanning the area).
- Provide key story elements you want the autoresponder to acknowledge or reinforce.
How to Get the NPC Storyteller to Respond Again
After the AI posts its content, you must quote its most recent response in your next post to prompt another reply. This ensures continuity and helps the AI recognize the ongoing scene.
If you do not quote its latest response, the autoresponder will not generate a new reply. Ask it to take into account other posts as well.
Best Practices for Using the Autoresponder
Use It as a Narrative Tool: The AI should enhance roleplay, not replace player interactions. Let it introduce challenges, set the scene, or move the story forward.
Keep It Thematic: Ensure that the Storyteller's responses align with Cyberpunk 2081's gritty, high-tech, neon-lit setting.
Avoid Over-Reliance: The autoresponder is best used as a supplement to storytelling, not as the primary driver of the thread.
Limitations & Restrictions
- The NPC Storyteller cannot be used in Out-of-Character (OOC) sections.
- It must remain story-driven and immersive, not for mechanical resolution of dice rolls.
- Only the thread author can enable or disable it.
- Players must quote the AI's latest response in their next post for it to reply again.
