Jack shifted in the seat, one of many. Now part of the Vice Unit, he was plainclothes, stepped up in pay, and stepped up in responsibility. He looked across the streaking of the buildings as they passed, twelve cars in total. Tactical teams, patrol cars, and Special Investigations cars. They were hitting warrants today- in fact, they were hitting four at once. All in the same area. He turned his head to the driver, a senior Vice Officer. He smirked over at Jack, smacking him on the vest. His name was Chavez. He was an older Hispanic man, graying around the temples. His skin was hard and leathery from years in the sun. He was muscular and he was in shape, and he had a few visible augmentations, but nothing quite like some other Officers. Just enough to get by, he said when Jack asked. He was sure he was Catholic too, he saw a Crucifix tattoo.

So far, Jack trusted him. He only had one other person in the city he trusted- only because of familiarity and honesty. And she wasn't here.

"You're gonna be okay, Polack." Jack smirked at the dig, checking his weapon. A shotgun. More specifically, the shotgun. The one that got him on the team to begin with. The one that blew a fucking cyberpsycho's head off. If nothing else that the day at the bank proved, it proved that Jack wasn't one to back down or shy away from a fight, or from certain death in that case. They needed guys like Jack in Night City, especially in the upper echelon of NCPD. The goal had been clear from the Investigations department-

Hit 'em. That's what the Chief said, at least.

So they were. And making a show of it. Jack exited the car first, holding his shotgun above his head, the Tactical Officers, a mix of SWAT and Patrol Officers providing cover. Megabuilding H4 was huge and sprawling, but luckily- the cluster of apartments to hit were all on the second floor. Apparently whoever took them over for narcotics and distribution wanted them off the ground floor but close enough to get in and out quickly. That, and maybe everyone in the second floor was dead from the plague.

Jack racked his shotgun and watched the SWAT teams line up outside the doors, and the Senior Officer, Chavez, motioned for Jack to follow.

"We read em the riot act, then blow the door if they don't answer in a few seconds. Don't give 'em nothing on drug raids. Search warrants and arrest warrants, give 'em some time but don't give 'em no time to react or destroy evidence on a drug warrant. Dig?" He asked Jack, as Jack lined up outside one of the four apartments. Patrol Officers and the rest of the tactical officers blocked off the second floor for now, meaning nobody was walking on the hallways when they didn't need to. The reality set in for Jack that the danger was real. The Tactical Officer knocked on the door and Jack took out the warrant, and said-

"This is the Night City Polic-"

He was interrupted in his reading of the warrant with handgun fire through the door. The Tactical Officer reacted, dumping a magazine through the door. Jack heard a collapse on the other side. Jack turned to the other three down the row, and gave the signal. And all at once- NCPD moved in for the kill. Breach charges were set and the doors were primed. He took a deep breath, turning his head away as he waited for the inevitable explosion and waiting to move into the room.

The Law had come to H4.

But who else was here?

Raids weren't anything new to Rex. In fact, in his opinion they had been largely unfounded, as of late. Largely... but not all. There was something to be said about the scum that infested the deepest corners of Night City. It had seemed like a never-ending battle to him. The corpos just get richer, and the gangers get more leeway. And it was always the people that suffered.

He had been designated to a vice operation. The reason as to why was anyone's guess. If Rex had to put a finger on it, it was likely because the suits didn't want him poking around where it wasn't needed. Well... not needed in their eyes, at least.

There were few truly good cops in the city, and even fewer that were ready to do what was necessary to make a true difference. But that was all away from his mind now, for all that really mattered were the inevitable warrants they were about to enact upon.

He audibly scoffed, shooting a glance at another detective that had considerable seniority over him.

"Is this truly necessary?"

The vet looked at him with jaded eyes, his gaze showing entirely too many years putting up with the bullshit of the NCPD.

"Of course."

It was all he could offer, and Rex found himself asking why he had expected more.

Before he could do much else, the breach went into full effect, as did the expected gunfire that followed. He would take his place against the concrete wall of the nearest apartment.

Night City... it never changed...

Jack dropped his body weight, shifting lower as more rounds came through the door. Something along the lines of "fuck you cops" in broken English- or perhaps just a drugged out psycho. One of them exited the doorway, brandishing a ninja sword of some kind. Jack turned his gun upwards, put two in his chest, but only sparks came out when he hit most of the chrome. Jack ducked a swing, before shoving his shoulder violently into the suspect. He sent him tumbling a story down below, head first.

Chrome or not, he was dead on impact when his face hit the ground before the rest of his body did. He was an awful, contorted mess before Jack turned to the rest of the occupants. It was a two bedroom apartment, and there was still a shooter inside. Jack pivoted inside, gun up.

The junkie was reloading his gun, shakily. Even with all his chrome and cybernetics, panic was still panic and the human factor was overriding the parts of his body he had defiled with electronics. Jack's sidearm lined up squarely between his eyes, and-

Lights out for another suspect. Drugs and money, a few firearms were strewn around the apartment. The drugs were neatly packaged and the apartment was relatively clean. Despite being drug-pushers and habitual users, these men seemed to want to have a clean living space. Human of them.

Jack and a few other Officers cleared the rest of the apartment, then came out, while more Officers flanked up the stairs. He looked down the hallway at @Rex Muldoon, motioning for him to follow. Jack pushed himself against the doorframe of the second apartment- which had yet to be breached.

Jarosław pushed air into his lungs, taking a deep breath, waiting for more tactical Officers. He produced another warrant, holding it above his head to the peep hole.

"THIS IS THE NIGHT CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT. COME OUT NOW-" And the distinct sound of something breaking, stuff being thrown around, panicked cursewords. Jack rotated to the other side of the door, to where Rex would be on the opposite side. Jack lined up his gun with the door as one of the SWAT officers came by with a breach charge. And a countdown... in 3....2.....1....

Bang.

Rex, having the dominant position, would be in first. One down, three to go.

Ironically, he was in the building, but on a different assignment than the rest of the Night City Police Department. Balti was a few floors above the raiding officers, the man was hunting another game. Someone to whom they hadn't sent ordinary NCPD members, but a MaxTac member. He also knew that it was never a good sign when it came to this kind of thing, but that was why he had signed up for MaxTac after he had been discharged from the military and the Special Forces there. It was just the sort of job that people who were adrenaline junkies, like Balti, needed. But that was a private matter, there are few wives who would put up with it.

Balti was now alone because his wife had divorced him and taken the child with her. Fortunately, they were still on good terms and often did things together, but she didn't want to go on living her life waiting to see when he would stop coming home because something had happened to him. On the other hand, since their divorce, he had taken on even more work than before. For him it was also a way to relax and get the adrenaline he needed. But he had it in him to always want to go home, to his son, and maybe even get his wife back someday. Maybe. But what was very important was that Balthazar Harris did not suffer from a death wish and had no suicidal tendencies.

If he had, he would not have been in the position he was in. But back to the present and the mission. Balti arrived at the top of the building in an aerodyne and went down from there. Soon he arrived at the right level; he was alone, it was supposed to be a quick mission. The man was unaware that a few levels down, the aforementioned raid was taking place. The man carefully placed the small explosive device on the lock to break the door down and then moved away. The bow was already in the man's hand when he heard an explosion, but the sound was not coming from this floor, but from a few floors below.

Well, the man's target heard that and the next thing you know, there was a shot fired up here, from some sort of heavy weapon, because the door literally blew out of place and exploded. As a result, another explosion shook the building and pieces of the ceiling fell down to where Balti was. The man managed to jump out of the way of the debris, but was knocked to the ground by the blast. In the rising and disturbing dust, he both saw and heard his target rush out of the apartment and start running towards the stairwell opposite Balt. The covert operative in the Hawkeye costume didn't wait too long either, he immediately jumped up from the ground and started running after his target.

Balti was sure of one thing... Night City never changes.
